Activities of the BMVA

The BMVA organizes a range of events and other activities:

  • The annual British Machine Vision Conference at which current research in the machine vision community is presented.

  • A series of one-day meetings on a variety of vision-related topics, normally held in London. There are separate meetings organized by the Scottish Chapter of the Association.

  • The BMVA sponsors other conferences and meetings, such as the annual Medical Image Understanding and Analysis conferences.

  • BMVA members are major contributors to the annual EPSRC Summer School in Computer Vision, which gives training to research students who are normally in their second year of study.

  • The BMVA has a presence at relevant trade shows, such as the annual Image Processing and Optical Technology show, held at the NEC in Birmingham in February.

  • A prize is awarded annually, in the name of Prof. Geoff Sullivan, to the best UK doctoral thesis published in the machine vision area.

  • The BMVA recognizes important lifetime contributions to machine vision by awarding Distinguished Fellowships.
