Vision and Robotics Research at the Ocean Systems Laboratory,
Heriot-Watt University

BMVA Northern Chapter meeting for Friday Dec 11th. 1pm Room G725 in the
Stopford Building , University of Manchester , Oxford Road.

ABSTRACT: this talk is an introduction to the research of the OSL at Heriot-Watt University, a long-standing centre of excellence in the UK for subsea robotics. Recent and current projects span control of remotely operated and autonomous vehicles (e.g., motion planning, station keeping), sonar image processing (target identification, motion analysis), video image processing (structure and motion reconstruction, tracking, mosaicing, seabed classification), and subsea sonar communications. Applications include both the industrial sector (e.g., inspection and maintenance of man-made installations) and scientific data collection (e.g., detection of objects of biological or geological interest, sediment or water column sampling).
